Licensed Professional Counselor
As a practical, interactive, solution-focused therapist, my treatment approach is to provide support, insight and feedback to help clients address current problems or long-standing issues. With sensitivity and compassion, I help individuals cope or bring resolution to a wide range of life challenges and issues. With an integration of complimentary methods, I draw from experience and a selection of techniques to incorporate what is most helpful for each individual. Together with each client, I work to stabilize emotions, build on strengths and achieve life goals.
In an atmosphere of acceptance and understanding, my goal is to help a couple gain insight into the nature of their relationship, clarify where they are and establish where they want to go. In the process, vital skills can be acquired and restoration of respect and trust can be reestablished. Companionship, unity, passion, intimacy and devotion can become major characteristics of their relationship. The goal will be to build a naturally sustainable relationship that is fulfilling and satisfying.
In additional to my counseling practice, I mediate disputes with couples (separation or divorce) as well as family issues. I am approved, registered and on the state roster with the Alabama Center for Dispute Resolution, Montgomery, Alabama
As emotionally painful as it is, millions of couples divorce each year. Most people agree that it is more stressful than a spouse dying, and it can have a lasting negative effect on the children. However, research supports the idea that the behavior of the couple has a greater impact on the children than the divorce itself. In divorce therapy, I aid couples or individuals in working through the emotional issues, as much as possible, to prepare for life after divorce. In divorce mediation, I help couples work toward a mutually agreeable outcome. There is no such thing as a fair divorce, but there can be a reasonable outcome. Advantages to mediation:
- It is often far less expensive and much quicker than litigation;
- It gives greater control over the outcome to the couple;
- It helps keep controversy to a minimum, while fostering an amicable relationship;
- It can help create and maintain a sense of integrity and respect between the couple;
- Perhaps best of all, it attempts to create a cooperative relationship and an effective parenting plan.
